HOLIDAY INFORMATION

The Hiking Programme

With two experienced Grassroutes leaders we can offer a choice of two hikes on each hiking day. Where we have only one leader the hikes will be a mix of two grades. In every case the distances and ascents/descents can be modified to suit the needs and abilities of the group members but will generally be grades B and C (for detailed information in grade suitability, please refer to the chart below). Cable cars give access to the Alpine pastures and provide a jumping off point for more strenuous ascents of the higher peaks.

Non-Hiking Excursions

There will be three free days during the holiday, when you can relax or join one of our organized excursions by coach. The collection of optional extras of which you may choose to take advantage are as follows:

• A full day visit to Lake Garda, the largest lake in Italy. Explore the beautiful surroundings including the ancient fortified town of Sirmione, the Castello Scaligeri in Sirmione and Malcesine with its 14th Century fortifications and even older medieval tower, or Riva del Garda that once belonged to the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
• Another full day visit to the Marmolada, just east of Trento. Considered to be the Queen of the Dolomites because it is the highest, this mountain consists of a ridge running east to west. Towards the south it breaks abruptly into sheer cliffs and a mind-blowing vista of rock face several miles long.
• Or for something totally different we can arrange for you to head to Verona, the magnificent backdrop to the classic story of Romeo & Juliet. See the famous Roman Arena and possibly enjoy an outdoor Operatic Performance.

Hotel

You will stay at the excellent 3 star Hotel Alpino Plan, situated on the edge of the village, at the foot of the dramatic Sella Pass. We have been using the Alpino Plan for over 20 years and the Demetz family offer a warm welcome, very comfortable, en-suite bedrooms and mouth watering 4-course dinners, as well as buffet breakfasts. Bedrooms have TV, telephone and hairdryers and the hotel also offers a spacious lounge, bar-lounge and lift.

Flights

Grassroutes Holidays Ltd. does not arrange flights to Verona. We can however assist you by telephoning fully bonded Air Tour Operators on your behalf. Please note that we do not take payment for flights ourselves, these must be made directly to the ATOL holder. By ensuring that you are booking direct with an ATOL holder you can rest assured that your flights are financially protected.

• 7 or 14 nights accommodation in twin or double rooms. Rooms include TV, telephone and hairdryer
• 7 or 14 evening meals with buffet breakfast each morning.
• A one or two week transport pass allowing access to service busses, cable cars and chair lifts all within the Gardena Valley System
• Airport transfers from Verona Airport to the hotel and return by deluxe coach or comfortable mini-bus.
• Services of one or two Grassroutes Leaders
• V.A.T. and all local service charges and taxes.

THE PRICE DOES NOT INCLUDE
Flights to Verona, Lunches, insurance (can be arranged on request), optional extra sightseeing excursions (details will be advised by the Grassroutes Leaders), single room supplements, admissions to castles, museums etc. Local transportation costs not part of the hikeing programme and items of a personal nature, e.g. drinks, telephone calls etc.
