Hiking the Italian Brenta Dolomites

Hiking the Italian Brenta Dolomites

The Brenta Dolomites are a great range of mountains to the west of the main Dolomite mass. The massif is compact but dramatic with summits reaching around 10,000 feet. Our centre is the popular village of Madonna di Campiglio, which is very well served by a number of cable cars reaching the alpine plateaux at the base of the mighty peaks. You can also hike on the Pressanella Alps to the west of the valley, so you have the best of both mountain worlds. Another excellent hotel with great food and again every facility you need in the village.

HOLIDAY INFORMATION

The Hiking Programme

The programme is designed to offer superb walking at Grades B and C, as described overleaf but the actual walks are always tailored to suit each individual group. With two experienced Grassroutes Leaders, we offer a choice of two walks on each of the 9 walking days, thus accommodating most degrees of ability. The cables and lifts will carry you to rolling alpine meadow areas, for easier mountain walking. These in turn lead to higher, more strenuous options, for those who prefer something more demanding.

Non-Hiking Excursions

During the holiday there will be three free days, when you can relax and do your own thing, or join one or more of our optional extra sightseeing excursions. Possibilities include a full day visit to beautiful Lake Garda, visiting Sirmione, Malcesine and Riva del Garda. A second tour takes you to magnificent, mediaeval Verona, city of “Romeo & Juliet” and the famous Roman Arena. You can attend, vacancies permitting, one of the performances of this season’s operas in the outdoor Arena, a very memorable experience.

Hotel

In Madonna you stay at the very comfortable and conveniently situated 4-star Hotel Diana. This is within easy walking distance of the cable cars and the village squares. It has a comfortable lounge, cosy bar and an attractive restaurant. Food is very good and all the bedrooms have private bathrooms. The Bonazza family have that happy knack of making their guests feel relaxed and at ease.
